[Press Release]: First PAKISTANI, MUSLIM Woman to headline a theater production in south Florida

FIRST PAKISTANI-AMERICAN, MUSLIM TEEN CAST IN MIAMI PRODUCTION OF MS MARVEL

[South Miami, FL]: Muslim American Casting is proud to announce that Bisma Misbah (19), a South Florida local, has been cast as Ms. Marvel/Kamala Khan in Area Stage Company’s production of Mirror of Most Value: A Ms. Marvel Play.  The play, by Masi Asare, premieres this Friday, November 12th.

Misbah is a casting Intern for Muslim Casting and a second-year English and Telecommunications student at the University of Florida. She is the first Pakistani Muslim woman to headline a production in South Florida. She is also the first Pakistani to headline a production for Area Stage Company.

“I am proud to be representing this strong character,” Misbah said, “and I want to show all the little Muslim girls out there they can be superheroes too. This was the perfect acting opportunity for me as a Pakistani Muslim woman.”

Area Stage Company,  established in 1989, is an award-winning professional theatre company.  Area Stage Company sought authentic casting for this production by auditioning and casting Ms. Misbah. “We commend Area Stage Company’s effort to not only tell the Ms. Marvel story, but to seek out authentic casting. That is exactly why we started this agency in the first place--to encourage authentic casting. We hope many more productions follow suit,”  said the Founder of Muslim American Casting, Serena Rasoul. 

“We worked to develop Ms. Misbeh’s skills in preparation for the audition and we couldn’t be prouder or more excited for her,” said Ms. Rasoul.
